Weleda Skin Food: my favorite natural skin care

Gabrielle Koster

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know: I love living a healthy lifestyle. And with healthy I mean: I eat whole foods, lots of greens and plant based. I work out every week. I meditate. I take time to care for myself. And I use natural products. And the last part, that’s what I want to talk to you about.

In my last post I talked about hormone disruptors. There are a lot of chemicals used in cosmetics that can cause hormonal imbalance or skin irritations like eczema. I’m not kidding, there are actually a lot of hair dressers, make-up artists and beauticians with eczema caused by using products on their hands só often. It happens so frequently, they have a name for it: beauticians eczema.

I believe beauty starts within. It starts with nurturing your body with healthy foods (lots of greens and good carbs and fats!) and by thinking beautiful thoughts. But your skin can sometimes use an extra hand, especially when it’s cold and stormy outside. People very often ask me what kind of beauty products I use, so I will share my favorite natural beauty products.

Skin Food

Let’s start with my skin routine! I love using 100% natural oil as a base, then I use a serum and finally, my favorite cream since forever, Skin Food by Weleda. I’ve been using Weleda for a long time now and this cream really takes care of your skin, especially if it’s a dry and can use some extra love. I love that it’s 100% natural and made with extracts of gentle viola tricolor, calendula and chamomile, in a rich, thick base of oils.

You can use Skin Food on your face, but it’s really a multi-tasker and can be used on your entire body as well. Skin Food comes in two sizes, so the small one is álways in my bag. Just in case. Especially since autumn is starting in The Netherlands and my skin gets a little drier. Whenever I feel like my skin gets more dry, I use a little extra of Skin Food and the flakiness really disappears. And it makes my skin feel so incredibly soft. The cream also smells delish, when I use it on my body I catch myself smelling my skin all the time. It’s so good!

What I love even more: Weleda has always been 100% natural. They’ve been making Skin Food since 1926! Can you believe that? The best thing: it’s very affordable (starting from €5,49)! You can shop Skin Food on Weleda.nl or Weleda.com.

Other products

I always read the ingredients carefully, avoid the bad chemicals (preservatives like parabens and methylisothiazolinone) and go for the 100% natural products like Skin Food. I even use 100% natural tooth paste on my biodegradable bamboo tooth brush. The deodorants I use are a hundred percent made of natural ingredients and therefore are usually cream. I clean my face with 100% natural oil like jojoba oil.

Eco beauty by Oriflame, bamboo tooth brush by Bamboo Brush Society, toothpaste by Urtekram, scrub by Madara, oil by True Organic Sweden, deodorant by We Love The Planet and Skin Food by Weleda.

But don’t be scared by names you can’t always pronounce. For example, Tocopherol just means it’s Vitamin E. Just because it sounds chemical, doesn’t mean it’s bad for you.

Don’t be scared of the following common ingredients:

  • Helianthus Annuus (sunflower oil)
  • Cocos Nucifera (coconut oil)
  • Simmondsia Chinensis (jojoba oil)
  • Prunus Amygdalus (Dulcis) means (sweet) almond oil
  • Prunus Armeniaca (abricot oil)
  • Olea Europaea (olive oil).
